At some point in your life, you’re bound to have some form of injury or pain that keeps you from living your daily life. In many of these situations, the pain goes away after a couple of days of rest and home treatments. However, sometimes the pain or injuries are too serious for a few days of rest, and they require professional assistance. This is what we offer at our East Paris location in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Our physical therapists at Advent Physical Therapy are skilled healthcare professionals with years of training and experience in treating conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. This includes your bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and cartilage. Treating these areas can help other reduce conditions like nerve pain or head pain.

Many physicians recommend their patients visit a physical therapist to achieve complete recovery from an injury or condition, but you always have the option to stop by one of our offices on your own to see what we can do for you.

What does physical therapy do?

The primary goal of many physical therapy treatments is to improve the strength and flexibility of your muscles and ligaments. This often helps you recover from an injury faster or can help relieve pressure from your bones, joints or nerves that may be causing pain. Additionally, physical therapy treatments help assist in:

  • Injury recovery
  • Injury prevention
  • Reducing pain
  • Recovering from surgery
  • Recovering from a challenging condition like stroke or arthritis
  • Adapting to using an artificial limb and more

Each treatment at Advent Physical Therapy is developed according to your personal needs. At your first appointment, you will meet your physical therapist who will work with you for the duration of your treatment. He or she will examine your symptoms and review other important factors like age, medical history and fitness goals.

Once your needs have been identified and goals have been outlined, treatment can begin. Again, treatments are always unique to the individual, but you can expect yours to include some of the following:

  • Hands-on therapy
  • Massage
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Cupping and more

In addition to treating injuries and pain, we also work with athletes who want to improve their ability to perform. Our physical therapists can develop personalized training routines for you to help you achieve your goals. Please contact us today to find out what kind of athletic training we can offer you.

What Our Patients Say

Brad Johanson was my therapist. He was a great listener so to understand my physical problem and then create a therapy plan. I was amazed at the swift improvement to my condition as a result of his efforts and following the exercises that he recommended. He is certified in “dry needling” a process that helps relieve the pain. I trusted his recommendations and recommend him to anyone who is in need of physical therapy. I was glad to have used Advent Physical Therapy.

John J

Brad Johanson is my therapist. He has helped me immensely with a chronic ailment. He listened, offered real-life solutions and overall came up with a treatment plan that has helped me. I would highly recommend Brad.

Lisa C

Absolutely recommend the clinic for the knowledge, dedication and professionalism of the staff. I received all the necessary attention to evolve in the treatment and ended the sessions feeling totally recovered. Excellent job.

Gisele S

Jim worked with me to take my lower back pain, which restricted virtually all daily tasks, to my gaining complete and pain-free mobility. Equally important, though, he provided an arsenal of strategies to prevent reoccurring problems.

Jeanne W

I highly recommend Advent Physical Therapy. Jim worked wonders on my shoulder and helped heal chronic pain that I have had for years.

What to expect from your visit to Advent in East Paris?

At Advent Physical Therapy, we don’t believe in bland, cookie-cutter treatments. Every patient who comes through our doors is special and deserves unique treatment. We will work with you to develop a custom plan to help you achieve your recovery goals.

At your first appointment, your physical therapist will examine the affected area with a series of physical tests.

We will perform a thorough physical examination of the affected areas, review your medical history and ask some questions about your health and lifestyle to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.

You’ll receive instructions for some stretches and exercises to perform at home between appointments. For optimal results, you should follow these instructions as seriously as you would for taking prescription medication.
